Interactive Blogging, by Heather Birch

Interactive blogging

  • does not purport to increase blog traffic exponentially or internationally; rather, it focuses on how to increase visits to the classroom blog by its most important readers--the students in that classroom, and their parents
  • interactive posts invite a specific response from the reader, as opposed to simply displaying content to be viewed
  • can draw readers, engage readers
  • gives readers a voice

  • can be designed to give teachers assessment of learning data
  • is a comfortable platform for student visitors who are at home in Web 2.0, where they are active responders, creators, and “likers,” as opposed to passive consumers
  • gives students practice at the 21st century skill of sharing; as their work is viewed and responded to, students begin to understand and appreciate that their work has an authentic audience
